A distinct ringed tail swished back and forth in the bracken. Ringpaw crept slowly, sliding along the ground akin to a snake. His yellow eyes were focused on his prey, which was unaware of his presence. The tabby-and-white apprentice pounced, triumphantly hooking his prey over one claw. It was a large black centipede, it's many legs flailing helplessly. Ringpaw snickered and tossed the creature up in the air, turning and batting it with his tail. He knew he had been sent hunting because the camp still needed all the fresh-kill it could get, and he was -- hunting bugs, that is. He poked his muzzle into the bushes, searching for his victim. After not finding it, Ringpaw turned his attention to the Twoleg wrap around his left paw. He remembered being injured and the Twolegs capturing him, binding his paw with the strange, stretchy stuff, and setting him free again. He had tried chewing at the wrapping, but it was coated with a sticky substance that made him vomit. Ringpaw sighed and gave up, looking for some real prey.

Ringpaw stopped his searching as he opened his jaws to scent the air. He recognized his mentor's smell; he had no idea she was testing him but the apprentice decided to reverse the joke. He half turned to face where Raptoreyes was hiding, then turned his back to the bushes. He took two steps forward, then wheeled on the spot and dashed into the bushes, cannoning into the mahogany-colored she-cat.

Ringpaw fell back, dazed. He'd always known his mentor to be moody, but she'd never lashed out this violently. Feeling confused, he mewed, "But isn't it part of my training? To practice fighting with my mentor?" He didn't understand why she had reacted that way.

(I hope you guys don't mind me joining as well ^-^)
In most cases Halloween tried to stay as far away from clan cats as he could. He didn't have anything against them, it just made life easier in the long run. He thought at first this might be a similar situation. He'd scented clan cats and was starting to walk away, when his ears caught parts of their conversation. Intriquing... He soft, almost velvet smooth voice rang clearly as he turned and started walking /towards/ the two clan cats. Making sure to stay down wind of them he crawled into some nearby bushes, his intense eyes focusing on the mentor and apprentice. What had provoked this sudden interest in the two he didn't know, maybe it was a spot of boredom. He could find no other good reason.

[ Are we only allowed to be at one place at one time? If so I'd like him to be here ^^ *desperate for a RP* ]

(( Yeah, only one place at a time -- otherwise everybody ish confuzzled. Don't worry, I did the same thing once. XD )) Ringpaw was still gazing up at his mentor when he felt his pelt prickling. It was almost as if a pair of eyes were burning into his fur. He whipped around, but could neither see nor smell any cat. He turned back to his mentor and mewed, "Is it just me, or is someone near?" He hoped the more experienced cat would help him out.

Halloween felt the wind shifting around him, bristling his black and orange patchs on his back. Suddenly he realized they may be able to scent him. Quickly his gaze snapped up and his ears fell back against his skull. Shoot, they most certainly had been alerted of his presence. Carefully he began to walk backwards, away from the two clan cats. This hadn't been one of his brightest ideas yet.

Ringpaw whirled around. "Someone's there, I'm positive!" he hissed. He opened his jaws, trying to pinpoint the cat, if only to impress his mentor and make up for the earlier mishap. He padded forward carefully, his ears pricked, the black tip of his tail twitching excitedly.

Halloween dared to stop moving for a second, his enitre body frozen for his own safety. Yeah he was totally sure now this had been a stupid idea, and now he'd have to try his hardest to make sure he got away without harm. Unlike the clan cats, who had others to care for them if they got hurt, he had to watch out for himself- if he got hurt then things could get pretty rough. Being hurt means he would have an even harder time hunting, less food means less energy, which means he heals slower, which means he'll go without food longer, and it's just a nasty downward spiral that ends most likely with death, not a path he wanted to follow. His pink nose twitched, mentally willing the two cats to be distracted long enough that he could make his getaway. If they saw him... he didn't want to think about it.

Ringpaw continued stepping slowly forward, his spotted tabby fur prickling slightly. He paused, confused, when he felt something soft and furry under his paw. Thinking it the body of a dead mouse, he looked down, mewing, "Raptoreyes, it's a dead mou- StarClan, it's somebody's tail!" Because of the thick undergrowth, the apprentice could not see the body that the appendage was connected to. Curious, he hooked it with his claws and lifted it, examining the fur. "Looks like some cat lost it. Should we take it back to camp and see who it belongs to?"

Ringpaw stared at his mentor. "Oh." An idea sprang into his mind. Rather than dart after Raptoreyes, the tom planted all paws firmly, grasped the tail in his jaws, and gave a hard yank.

(sorry for the delay, I was gone this weekend)
Halloween froze up as he felt Ringpaw on his tail. Great... just great... Maybe if he sat still long enough the apprentace would follow Raptoreyes, then he could dart. No such luck. A loud yowl was heard as his tail was yanked and he burst from the bush beside Ringpaw, ears flattened against the crown of his skull as he eyed Ringpaw- an obvious look of displeasure on his face. Well his cover's been blown now, thanks to this little guy. His white chest was moving slowly with each deep breath he took, ready to bolt away at any second.

"Whoa!" Ringpaw leapt back in surprise as a very annoyed looking tom burst out. Although the fur along his spine prickled, he felt more curious than aggressive; although he was the eldest apprentice this was the first time he had seen a loner.

Halloween's black and orange fur along his back bristled up, and his body was obviously tense. He weighted his chances, a fight was a no-go. Two of them, one of him, not very good odds. Running might be better, but if they caught him then he'd have to fight, and that wouldn't be good. Might as well try and talk his way out first, the only option that might not lead to fighting. "Hunting's better here..." He said, trying to give an explanation as to why he was on their lands.
