Rainstar allowed a layer of reserve to cloak over herself before she replied. "I wish I had been able to catch them, I could have gone with them to help with the rouge." Rainstar sat down as she observed the den, Snowstorm and Goldstripe were both harbored in it, a saddening sight for any cat.
"At least we had poppy, who knows how bad it could have been if we didn't. I'm going to go to creepy cave and see how their both doing." She paused for a moment as she turned to leave a nagging thought tugging at the edge of her mind. "How long have they been gone?" She asked Brighteyes, still looking out of the den.

Brighteyes shuffled her paws uncomfortably. "Not long enough for me to start worrying yet," she replied. "They should be on their way back."

But by the way that rouge gave wounds to Goldstripe, I wouldn't take him lightly, even with two cats going up against him." Rainstar said gruffly, as if something was stuck in her throat. "I just hope they haven't done anything that may cost them their lives."

"Wildheart is a pretty sensible tom when it comes to these things," Brighteyes reminded Rainstar. "Lunar's a bit more headstrong, it seems, but I know that he'd die before anything happened to her."

Wyvernpaw blinked as she slowley stood up. Her head was hurting. She staggered back into the apprentice den.

Goldstripe lay in a state of semi-consciousness, listening to the conversation but unable to speak. "The one who did this... he killed two rogues as easily as if they were mice, though the rogues were not trained warriors. This is the reason I was able to escape..." She trailed off, exhaustion seeping at her heart. She glanced up to see the pale blue shape of her mother, a StarClan she-cat, sitting nearby. She opened her mouth to say something to Riverfur, but the deceased warrior shook her head gently. No, it is not your time yet, you have many moons ahead of you. And yes, you are the only one who can see me. Beware of the night. Riverfur turned and disappeared, and Goldstripe felt reassured and troubled at the same time. She closed her eyes, thinking.

Wildheart bounded through the camp entrance, scarcely slowing as he skittered into Brighteyes' den. "Here," he mewed, setting down his mouthful of marigold. "Is it enough?" Brighteyes nodded and began chewing the yellow plant into a poultice. Sighing with relief, he turned and exited, flopping down by the fresh-kill pile.

Lunar walked in behind him, and trotted over to the medicine cat den, placing her bundle of marigold down gently on the ground. She looked over Goldstripe and Snowstorm with ginger green eyes, sadness filling her lungs as she let out a sigh. "How are both of them doing?" She asked Brighteyes as she curled up across from the she-cat.

Brighteyes didn't look up as she gently patted the herb onto Goldstripe's wounds. "Snowstorm is healing," she replied, "But it's painfully obvious he won't be able to pick up his warrior duties again." She sighed. "Goldstripe's wounds aren't as deep as I feared. She should be back to full strength in around a moon, I'd say."

Lunar sighed again as she heard the news she hoped and feared for. "I don't think that Snowstorm would be willing retire to the Elders though. What do you think he'll be able to do?" She yawned involuntary as she laid her head gently on her paws.

Brighteyes shrugged. "There's a slim chance he could still hunt, but his paw is permanently broken, and his eye is lost. It'd be dangerous for him on the rocks. If all else fails I could always use an assistant here."

"I feared as much, but at least he does have that chance to work with you." Lunar smiled softly though she could feel regret pour into herself, something that seemed to be happening a lot lately. "I just hope that Snowstorm and Goldstripe recover, even if they aren't as whole as they once were." She rolled over onto her side, the soft sand shifting beneath her gently into her gray pelt.

Brighteyes smiled as she glanced at Goldstripe and Snowstorm. "Well, two halves make a whole, especially when it comes to these two," she murmured, resting her chin on her fluffy paws. She closed her eyes, though she didn't feel tired.
