Even when Wyvernpaw was sleeping, her keen sense of smell picked up something salty. Her dreams were suddenly flooded with blood, and she woke with a start. Her head jerked up. She rushed out of the apprentice den. Her eyes wandered around till they came to rest on Goldstripe. Then...... uh.... she fainted.

The medicine cat's voice was low and urgent. "I'm almost out of marigold, and I need it for Goldstripe's wounds. I had to use up quite a bit for Snowstorm, but I didn't realize I was this low." Brighteyes looked at Lunar. "I'm not sure if it's still growing, but pray to StarClan that it is. Do you know where to find it?"

Goldstripe had lay with her head on her forepaws, and she sat up a little, looing around dazedly. Licking her wounds a bit, she shook her head to clear the fog. "Something... awful... is at the Creepy Cave. I... couldn't tell... because of the scent of blood... it had killed another cat... a rogue... but it looked... like the hugest cat... I've ever seen. Its tail... was almost gone... like something bit it off or something... It attacked me and... I was lucky to get away with my life. Absolutely no one... must go near that cave... it seems to have made that its... den..." She trailed off, feeling the wound in her neck pulsing and getting dizzy again. She lay her head on her forepaws.

Lunar listened to Goldstripe's moaning, her stomach clenching tightly as she began to realize the only place where marigold was still alive. "Brighteyes we have a problem, the water rose over a bit more than expected after winter, causing it where marigold couldn't grow anymore. The only other place where it still is, is over by creepy cave." She told Brighteyes in a low tone desperation. "I'm still willing to go though. I have less Mountainclan scent on me and it wouldn't see me as a big enough threat to attack, but even if he does try I'm ready."

Brighteyes sighed, closed her eyes. "I wish I could make it work with some other herb, but Goldstripe's wounds are pretty deep. Marigold is what we really need, but I don't want some cat to risk their life." She opened her eyes, looking at the small she-cat. "If you really want to, I'm not stopping you. It's your choice. But take Wildheart with you. He'll watch your back and can help carry more marigold."

"Yes Brighteyes, and if we see Rainstar or Pharoahpaw on the way we'll also warn them about the rouge too. " She added with a quick nod of her head. 'I'm doing it for Goldstripe and Snowstorm.' She told herself proudly as she raced towards the camp exit, skidding to a stop next to Wildheart. "We're going to Creepy Cave."

"More marigold?" Wildheart guessed, his muscled rippling as he stood. "Well, let's go." He whirled, springing away down the rocks.

Lunar raced down after him, her gray plet blending in with the shadows on the rocks. Her own muscles rippled underneath her pelt, stretching and contorting as she went. "By the way Goldstripe talked about this cat, he must know that cave pretty well." She commented to herself as began to match Wildheart's pace.

Pharaohpaw sailed into the camp, his mouth almost overflowing as he carefully set his fresh-kill onto the pile. He whirled and looked at the entrance, waiting for Rainstar.

Rainstar entered the camp a couple of pawsteps behind Pharoahpaw, her eyes immediately falling upon the fainted apprentice and the small streaks of dried blood on the camp floor. "What happened?" She asked hastily as she dropped her prey into the fresh fill pile and ran into the medicine cat's den. Her eyes widened as she say Goldstripe's body laying in the den, deep wounds covering her body.

Brighteyes looked up as Rainstar entered her den. "According to Goldstripe, there's someone in the creepy cave -- they must be pretty big, and not friendly, judging by her wounds. I gave her some poppy, but I'm out of Marigold. Lunar and Wildheart went to get some more. Ironically enough, around this time of season the only place where we can find marigold is at the creepy cave." She sighed in frustration, wrapping her fluffy tail around her paws.
