Duskpaw glanced anxiously in the direction of camp. "Um... don't you think it was time we were checking in? Hawkstar would be angry if he found that we had left the patrol we were on." There was another reason he wanted to go back to camp. He was sure it was apparent that he was concerned for Sandstone. Not only would she be kitting any day now, but something had to be done about her apprenticeship. Duskpaw knew it was not his duty to make sure she recieved training, and he knew that with the kits it would be hard, but she had to know how to defend herself. He made a mental vow that he'd teach her or die trying.

Lunapelt scoffed. She eyed speckleeyes. "Oh, isn't this a treat. I get to put an old fool in his place!" she taunted, her tail waving mockingly. She launched onto a fallen tree. "If your such a great clan like you say, then let's see you prove it! Just try and catch me! Otherwise, I'll be able to stay, hunt, sleep, and do what i want here! Everything will belong to me before you know it!"

Sablestripe glared back at Lunapelt. "I'll gladly take you up on that challenge!" Without warning she sprang. Her long legs carried her swiftly as she drew her lips back in a snarl, intent on tackling the smart-mouthed she-cat.

Lunapelt dodged quickly, slipping down into the ferns as sablestripe sailed past into a muddy pool on the other side of the tree. Lunapelt reapeared on the stump and looked down with undisguised amusement. "Maybe they should rename you mudfur!" she taunted, taking off across the length of the trunk.

Sablestripe glared. But instead of instantly leaping, she crouched, calculating where Lunapelt would be when she leapt. She quickly jumped, landing not on Lunapelt but instead in front of her, blocking her path. She knew the portion she stood on was rotting; it bent precariously as she balanced on it. Unsheathing her claws, Sablestripe lashed out faster than even a cat's eye could follow. She knew a blow to the head would throw any feline off balance.

Lunapelt skidded almost to a halt and leapt to the side almost as soon as sablestripe landed, her claws grabbing onto the bark of another tree. She pushed off of it with all her strength and soared high into the air past Sablestripe. Her lith body and powerful legs lent her speed that was amazing for a cat like her. Being out on the boat for a long time and having to live there for moons had given her training to strengthen her legs and her speed. Her paws sank a little ways into the mud, but she quickly pulled them back out as she ran. Too slow she thought to herself.

((Try not to auto-dodge; Lunapelt ain't invincible. ^^)) Hissing to herself, Sablestripe twisted off the log and landed with a large, soggy splash of mud. As the wave splattered both of them, she used the heartbeat of confusion -- combined with her own momentum and sliding -- to keep on going straight into the silver she-cat. They tumbled into a bramble bush; few thorns clung to her sleek fur.

I know, but technically speaking lunapelt never landed a blow to your charrie and then dodge sablestripe's hit, so technically it's not god-modding)) Lunapelt slowed down when she realized sablestripe had stopped following. She launched up a tall pine tree in the cover of the pine needle branches.

((I guess it's more of a matter of making sure to not dodge every blow -- if you've ever roleplayed with idiots you'll know what I mean. =w=)) Sablestripe snorted as she looked up. Despite the thick covering of needles, the rustling of branches was a dead giveaway of Lunapelt's location. She did not spring up and drag the other cat down; instead she slid underneath the log, which was behind the tree. Her dark pelt blended perfectly with the undergrowth and mud, she could not be seen but would know when the intruder moved -- she couldn't stay up there forever.

Lunapelt watched Sablestripe curiously until she disapeared. She wasn't so easily fooled. "What, hiding like a mouse now? So much for the 'brave warriors of jungleclan!'"she taunted, walking calmly on the branches in the open. She was at least fifteen feet up, probably more.

Duskpaw didn't take immediate action. Instead, he glanced at his surroundings, watching Sablestripe and Lunapelt tussle. When the duo of battling cats rolled into a thorn bush, he launched himself into a tree, shimmying to somewhere near the top. He watched Lunapelt leap over to a pine tree right next to the tree he was in. He silently slunk across branches, landing soundlessly on the branch above the rogue. His dark fur hid him in the shadows of the evergreen. He leapt down, claws unsheathed, and landed on Lunapelt's back, sinking his claws in where her ribs were. He hissed warningly. "I didn't want to fight you," He hissed, venom obvious in his voice, "But it seems I have no choice. We'll drive you off."

Sablestripe smiled proudly at Duskpaw's words and tactfulness. "Good job," she murmured. "Louder she yowled, "Like most rogues, you're uncannily good at running away -- I'd like to see how good these fighting skills of yours are. If you can fight at all." She had purposely given away her position; she relied on the apprentice to keep the rogue busy while she found a more prudent location.

Duskpaw smirked at Lunapelt. He hadn't any idea how she'd take this insult, but he was glad Sablestripe was there. He shivered as he imagined facing an adult loner himself...

Lunapelt yowled and twisted around so that she fell backwards, her front claws digging into the wood of the branch. Duskpaw tried to scramble back up but Lunapelt grabbed his leg and flung off into the air and far away from the branch before climbing up herself. "If clan cats are so easy to knock off, then i might as well go fight a mouse!" she shot back, obviously pleased with herself. "I'd like to see you last one day out on the salt waves!"
