Patrol

Tigereye stood on the twoleg-made bridge that linked the main land to the island he called home. He opened his mouth, scenting the air for trespassers. There was nothing in the wind to smell aside from distant prey and nature, which was all he had expected. Only fools would try to ambush the Island cats on the bridge but there was no harm in checking. With a flick of his long tail, Tigereye continued forward.
He was on his own right now. The sun was just barely touching the sky, and he hadn't the heart to rouse anyone quite yet. There was still a night patrol out that had been hunting and keeping watch, and a dawn patrol would soon be waking. The deputy had decided to take his own patrol for the mere fact that he didn't trust OceanClan...
Lately, there had been friction among the neighboring Clans. OceanClan kept insisting they were entitled to at least half of Big Claw Island. That small, claw shaped island had always belonged to IslandClan right from the beginning of the Clans, yet over the years OceanClan would keep butting their noses in where it didn't belong. Tigereye scowled momentarily. There had been no traces of the rival Clan lately, but that didn't mean there was no intentions to strike again hidden within OceanClan's camp. He wouldn't put it past the proud Taintedstar to be plotting something.
Tigereye prowled forward, deep into his thoughts as he scented the air for prey...

"Good morning, Tigereye."
A mellow voice sounded from the brush.
"Lovely day, isn't it?"
It was Jadestar, jade eyes glowing with peace and serenity.

Tigereye turned to look at the leader, pausing in his walk. He smiled in a friendly manner towards Jadestar.
"Why yes, it is luckily." Tigereye commented. He looked up the sky, watching clouds roll by momentarily.
"I almost feel as if a storm is building... but not for today thankfully!"
When you lived on the lands long enough, some cats were able to determine in a way whether storms were soon to hit. Tigereye was on of them. A feeling would stir within the tom's bones and convince him of rain storms or heavy snowfall.
"What brings you out?" Tigereye asked in a carefree tone. He was not questioning her or trying to invade her privacy, he just was innocently wondering what Jadestar was doing outside the camp.

"Just...getting some fresh air." murmured the black she-cat, scraping with a few claws at the earthy ground. She sniffed the air, and her black fur stiffened uneasily along her spine.

"Tigereye... have you every felt that you're being watched?"

Tigereye blinked at the question at first. The large tom glanced away, peering at the vast forestry the Clan was blessed with. The entire vicinity, including on the mainland and island camp, were shrouded by towering trees and shrubbery. They were blessed with such greenery and it made them capable of hiding easily, and likewise made it difficult for ambushing cats to attack without notice. The IslandClan cats knew their forest inside out and it was very hard for enemies to creep onto the island base without being spotted on the Twoleg bridge.

Despite all those facts, Tigereye heaved a gentle sigh, "Sometimes, Jadestar." He admitted, but not in a worried tone. "The tension has been thickening between us and OceanClan ever since Taintedstar became their leader and it makes me feel as if they are watching out every move, planning... I was hoping she'd be the one to stop this nonsense about Big Claw Island, but I fear she seems to be the worst of the OceanClan leaders I've seen in my lifetime."

Her fur bristled. "Exactly what I was thinking, Tigereye. I have a bad feeling that blood will be shed over this island, and warriors will fall.'

[karoia]

Tigereye looked to the leader, not used to seeing her on edge to this degree.
"Don't worry Jadestar. We can come up with something..." The tom smiled with a slight malicious twist.
"Maybe if we struck them first, it would let them know we are not ones to be messing with. We can prove Big Claw Island truly belongs to us. We can shed the blood over the wretched sands rather than our island..."
Tigereye went on calmly but the rage of battle glew in his bright eyes. He was well known by other Clans as a ruthless, uncaring, vicious fighter and that he was when he was in battle. Outside of battle, within his own Clan, he was very caring and would doing anything for its well-being. It just so happened bloodshed helped the Island cat's well-being at times... He did anything he could to serve the Clan, and to whatever degree or cost.

"Tigereye!" meowed Jadestar sharply. "Battle is not the solution for everything, and I am ashamed of you for speaking that way. We will not shed blood unless neccesary. I plan to talk this over with Taintedstar once and for all."

[karoia]

Tigereye dipped his head respectfully.
"I am sorry, I did not mean to upset you. It just seems OceanClan has never learned no matter the means. Perhaps a good one-on-one between you and Taintedstar may cause pleasant results."

Jadestar nodded slowly. "You're right, my friend. But my worry is that Taintedstar would not consent to such a meeting."

[karoia]

Tigereye thought for a moment.
"Actually, Taintedstar is a very thoughtful and intelligent cat in her own way. She is also kind, and I think she would at least have the decency to speak with you. Whether she would actually agree to anything is an entirely different matter, but I don't see why she'd refuse to just talk."
Tigereye chuckled.
"She might be eager to speak if she feels you are going to hand over some of the Island."

[Bluestar]

Snowstorm,who was taking a walk,accidentally tripped over a root and fell over.She gasped when she saw Jadestar and Tigereye.

Jadestar gave a nervous laugh. "Yes, I guess you're right. But suggesting that I lie to my fellow leader is treason!" She gave him a flick with her tail.

Then, seeing Snowstorm, she bristled. "What are you doing here?"

[Bluestar]

"I.....I was just hunting when I tripped over a root", she said,pointing to a long root.

[karoia]

"Treason as it may be..." Tigereye began but didn't finish. The deputy turned to the Clan cat who stumbled in on their conversation.
Tigereye looked calmly at the Warrior. "You should try to be more careful of your surroundings. If you continue to trip over obvious roots in the ground, how will you hunt?"
