Bengalkit stretched. She was growing with age everyday and she knew that well. She couldn't wait until the day she was to be apprenticed. Who would her mentor be? Would she be happy with her mentor? She couldn't wait to feel the excitement, dread, and anxiety that came with the ceremony. It was like a little package all in one hour. She yawned because it was so early and she mewed a bit because she wanted to hear her velvetnie voice. It reminded her of her mother, always there but never present.

Moonpaw exited the apprentices' den, stretching and yawning widely. The gray-and-white apprentice looked around briefly for her mentor, but, not seeing him, padded out into the sunshine. The sunlight dappled across her gray-and-white coat; she was definitely growing. She had always been scrawny, but now at least there was a bit of lean muscle on her. Maybe I can be a warrior someday soon!
Padding over to the fresh-kill pile, she picked up a thrush and began gnawing on it. Thinking about what to do, she glanced to her side, spotting Bengalkit. Grinning, she picked up a mouse in addition to her thrush and moved over to the kit to enjoy breakfast. Tossing the mouse to her, Moonpaw mewed, "What's up?"

Bengalkit lifted her weary head and met Moonpaw's gaze. Bengalkit caught the flying food source and ate it in two ravenous chomps. "Nothing. I am so bored...my apprentice ceremony should be coming up soon! Then I'll be an apprentice like you, Moonpaw." She mewed, happily purring.

"Don't forget me!" Pharaohpaw padded over to join Moonpaw, his own breakfast danging from his jaws in the form of a vole. "Though, by the time Rainstar gets around to making you an apprentice, Moonpaw and I will probably be warriors. Right?" The speckled tom grinned teasing at his friends, blue eyes dancing.

Bengalkit hissed playfully. "You wish!" She mewed with a flair. "You see, Rainstar can't WAIT to make me an apprentice! You're just afraid I'll be better."

Pharaohpaw twitched his whiskers with mock seriousness. "Is that so?" he hissed playfully, abandoning his breakfast and dropping into a crouch. "Why don't we find out, my friend?"

''Oh, you're on, mousebrain!'' Bengalkit sneered. ''You'll learn not to be so cocky, my friend.'' She leaped at him, without of claws of course. ''You're huge! But that's no match for my awesomeness!!!''

Pharaohpaw easily sidestepped with a snort, then retaliated with light swipe of his own to the side of her head. "Watch out," he purred mischievously, with a teasing voice. "I might accidentally take off an ear or two."

Bengalkit snarled and hopped towards Pharoahpaw once more. ''Like you would do that to a poor innocent kit. Ha! You'd get banished and we'd never see you again.'' Bengalkit taunted and teased and finally lay down on the ground, huffing and puffing with sleep.

"Innocent!" Pharaohpaw scoffed. "Yeah, right. You're more trouble than a tree full of eagles!" He stretched and trotted toward the camp entrance. "See you later," he called over his shoulder.

Bengalkit blinked open one eye to see Pharaohpaw leave. Bengalkit slowly got up from her stance and ran towards Pharaohpaw with lightning speed. "BOOM!" She hissed and fell off of his back.

Ravenheart stepped out of the warriors den and saw Bengalkit and Pharaohpaw near the camp entrance and walked over to them. "My, my, what are you two doing? Not planning on going out on a patrol without permission, now are you?" Ravenclaw asked almost teasingly.

Another cat approached from behind Ravenheart, smiling at the disgruntled cats.
"Because that would be unorthodox, wouldn't it Ravenheart?" Eagleeye said in a tone that left just enough doubt to if he was seriously upset or not. (I made him a warrior for this story...k?)
In reality, he just wanted to watch the younger cats squirm.

Bengalpaw shook her head. "No way. Well, I can go now cuz I'm an apprentice...but I have no mentor, sadly." Bengalpaw mewed, sniffing. "Where's Jackalwind? I think he said he was going to go hunt..." Bengalpaw looked out of the camp...but didn't see her brother.

Eagleeye scented the air as well.
"Ah, no Jackalwind about, methinks. No Jackalwind...only the bittersweet tang of unrequited love...will both the cold wind and the Jackalwind bring news of it?"
With that cryptic message, the warrior stalked off to the camp exit, whether searching for cats or wind no one was certain.
