((I'm somewhat scared to start this))
Conni stood on the edge of the fence, staring into the woods. There were rumors of strange cats living in there, but she knew some of them weren't true. She could remember living with her mother in the cold cage. She had told Conni more truth about them then any other cat she had met. She said thay they were strange, yet wonderful cats. Her mother said that, although she had never talked to them, she saw them hunting, and traveling. Conni knew that they did not eat other cats, and she also knew that they rarely came to the fences. Yet, here she was, waiting night after night, hoping to catch a glimpse of one.

(( Don't worry, you're doing good. ))
Although the chilly night bode no wind, a great crackling and rustling whipped through the bushes and around the trees that ran near the fenceline. Fierce, feral catlike eyes glared out in a wide survey across the land, seeming to burn a hole into the moon itself. A short, sharp muzzle curled upwards in a satisfied leer. A flash of ginger fur, a glimpse of a lean, stocky body, and the eyes vanished, though the undergrowth still waved slightly, promising, taunting some curious young explorer.

Conni scanned the undergrowth, having the feeling she was being watched. there was a glimmer of eyes in the moonlight, and the plants russled. it sounded like a large cat, or maybe a dog. She continued to stand on the fence, though she got ready to jump back down if it was a pretetor.

"Come on, now. What are you waiting for?" The husky voice resonating from the shadows spoke the feline tongue fluently and eloquently, but the rough growling edge, like a hidden blade, hinted at the speaker being canine. "You want to know the truth about what's really out there. Why do you hesitate?" The sharp yellow eyes flashed once more.

Conni hesitated. The voice was scary. It didn't seen like a cat. She began to wonder if the giant cats she saw on the moving glass lived here. "Come out were I can see you first," she said, her voice barely a whisper.

"Very well." A muscled but lean creature sprang up onto the fence beside the young cat. Her appearance was without a doubt canine, though the low-slung body and slender black legs belied her strength and speed. She could have easily pounced at the smaller feline and knocked her down, but made no move except to crouch and examine her with bright, calculating eyes.

Conni stood looking at the creature. Of course she knew what it was, but everyone said they had dissapeared. Her mother had met one once, though. It always surprised Conni how much she remembered of her mother. She could hear her in her head often, usually when the need was great. "If you ever see a strange looking forest-dog, remember that it is a Coyote, and Coyotes eat cats. There's not much use in running from them, as they can be faster then us. But, if you know of a nearby safe place, try to get there. It could save your life." Conni's mother had taught her Conni and her sister much about living in the forest. Conni tryed to jump back over the fence, but there was not enough power in her jump, and she struggled for a hold. Her ears curled in frustration and she tried again.

"Save your energy. We foxes don't eat cats. Usually." Fluffing up her thick russet fur, she settled herself more comfortably on the fence post. "But when times are hard, we sometimes have to expand out diet." She yawned, proudly displaying rows of needle-sharp fangs. "Of course, I'm sure you cats understand perfectly, being fellow carnivores and all. Eh?" She smiled in amusement as she watched Conni's futile attempts.

"Oh," she faltered, and stopped for a second. "your a fox? I-I thought you were a Coyote." her ears curled in embarassment. then she let what else the fox said sink in. "Oh." she said again. That was, of course, the exact time she remembered the Moving Wood. (it was really just a slat of wood in the fence that was loose, and if pushed, would turn up until you stoped.) It wasn't that far away. she ran until she spotted it. It wasn't hard to spot, as it was also the first bit of wood that had some harshly coloured substance that some teen Twolegs had spreyed from a shiny thing.

The fox raised an eyebrow. "Leaving already? Pity." She stood and jumped down, landing lightly. "And just when I'd found someone who might be interested in the Clans. Guess there's no bravery in house cats anymore. Perhaps I should've eaten you after all." With a sigh, she turned, ready to leave, her luxurious tail waving like a farewell banner.

Conni paused just as she pushed open the wood. "What?" she asked. She had expected it to try and eat her. although this may be a trap, and it was just trying to get her away from safty...... But, like usual, her curiosity won over her logic. "what did you say? Do you know about the forest cats?" she asked, making sure she could see the fence.

The mysterious fox smiled. "Who doesn't know about them? For all the fuss they put up about someone intruding on their territories and privacy, they're hardly discreet. Surely even a little kitten like you would know." She seated herself, wrapping her bushy tail around her paws. "They're a very interesting bunch. But why in the world is someone like yourself so curious, little kitten?"

Conni's ears curled again, and her eyes flashed. Her neighbor had called her a little kitten, usually when she couldn't do something. "Look at Conni! the poor little kitten can't even climb down a tree!" She would say. although she was a kitten at the time, she thought she was very brave. Conni perfected climbing that tree the day her neighbor moved. "That," she said to the fox, "Is private. And I do know about them; just not that much..." In reality, she found them quite fascinating, and she often day-dreamed that she was walking through the forest with one, no annoying little blue ribbons around her neck.

"Hmmm . . . Is that so . ." The fox mused, looking thoughtful. "Well, then," she said at last, "You seem adventurous enough. How would you like to meet one? Though I will warn you, it'll take some wit if you want their respect, as they don't have much for house cats -- Kittypets, if you will."

Conni still didn't trust this fox. It was said that there were two foxes in the woods, one good and one bad. She couldn't help wondering witch one she was. "If they don't like me, why would they want to see me?" she asked. But her mind was made up. she cousiously made her way closer to the fox.
