Phoenix narrowed her eyes, considering Ghost's words. He seemed to be an honest enough cat, but she still didn't want to accept any help. "What's in it for you?"

Ghost glanced at Keiogo. "A vet is... someone who makes you not a tom or queen anymore, so you can't have kits. They also make sure you don't have itchy fleas, but how they get rid of them, it's painful. It's hard to explain." He looked back to Phoenix. "I feel bad about my hasty words. Normally, I'm not like that. I really would have an awful conscience if I left you out here, and your twolegs were right in choosing you for a showcat, you're pretty." He hooked the mouse onto a claw and set it down in front of her. "If you want this, well, I have no need for it."

Phoenix twitched an ear as she glanced down at the mouse. She felt herself reddening at his kindness but still said nothing. "I'm fine." she mewed, turning and beginning to walk away. "I don't need anyone."

He matched pace with her. "Please," He meowed pleadingly. "I don't like to see cats hurt." ((Don't worry about short syndrome I have it too xD))

Phoenix looked down at her paws, then at Ghost. Although younger, he was just as big and his blue eyes were level with her orange ones. "I told you," she muttered, "I'm fine. It doesn't hurt." She supressed a hiss as another painful jab hit her chest.

"No, it isn't," He said. He tried to think of a better approach to this... it hit him like a stone. "You wouldn't be accepting help from me, seeing as how I wouldn't care. I'm headed in that direction anyways, it's getting dark. If you want to follow me you can." He turned away and began trotting towards Twolegplace, glancing back at Keiogo before continuing.

Phoenix hesitated. She began to pad after Ghost, then stopped. "I can't go back." she said quietly. The memory of the car crash roared into her head, as violent as the car's shaking and jolting.

Keiogo glanced at Ghost as he encouraged the she-cat to let him help her and was thankful for it. Pheonix did not look fit to travel alone but he didn't know who she was, so he had no right to offer help. And what help would be be anyway? He was practically lost as well.
"Where is this Penbrook?" Keiogo suddenly asked out of curiosity. He wondered if it was more Clan territory... he had never heard the term before. Green eyes glanced to check on his daughter who was fast asleep. The fast-paced journey had been too much for her...

Ghost paused. He turned to look at Phoenix. His muzzle broke out into a grin. "I didn't really want to go back either. You know what? I'm tired of the twolegs bossing me around. I want to be a free cat." He twitched his seal-colored tail excitedly.

"Oh." A faint expression of surprise flickered across Phoenix's face. "Yeah, I guess." She stared at the ground. She knew she couldn't go back. How am I going to survive out here? She felt a small knot of nervousness forming in her stomach. I can't ask for help, that's for sure.

The young cat looked up from where he had been staring at the ground. "Hey... I think I've heard of... something around here." He quieted a little. "Well, I've never met any before, but from some loners I heard there were these things in this forest called Clans..." His blue eyes shone excitedly. "They're groups of cats that live in the forest and eat prey." He tried to ignore the fact that he could hunt mice, though maybe not as effectively as Clan cats. "And... at six moons, they take in apprentices..." His voice was little more than a whisper. He dared not think of his own age, six moons, and the connection. He snapped to reality. "Oh. I remembered what I was going to say. They have cats that heal other cats, they call them medicine cats I think."

Keiogo listened as the tom mentioned Clans. Memories slowly came to mind as the black and white tom thought back to all his experiences with Clans, from the first time he set paw on MountainClan's land to the ever so recent escape from DarkClan's evil.
"Clan's aren't always so great." Kieogo murmured quietly. He didn't want to sound like an old cranky cat, but it was the truth. Cats not clanborn often found it hard to adjust he had heard, or just didn't like the order of Clans. Kieogo just disliked them from all the experiences he had.

"I see. Well, we don't have any other options. Let's go find one." Phoenix quickly reverted back into her aloof, nonchalant disguise. "Unless somebody has a better idea?"

"Okay," Ghost quietly agreed. He nodded in a northward direction. "Shall we set out then?" He asked quietly, his excitement all but vanished from the prospect of actually journeying to a Clan. He turned to Keiogo. "And... I know we don't even really know each other, my name's Ghst. But would you like to come with us?"

Keiogo blinked at the sudden offer. "Come with you? But where are you going?" He asked. He shuffled his dirty white forepaws, "Oh yes, and I'm Kieogo. This is my daughter Kia..." He flicked his tail in his daughter's direction.
As if responding to her name, Kia slowly woke up. Her eyes were opened halfway lazily. Her nostrils flared as she became more aware of her concious surroundings. The scent of strange cats came to, but fortunately they weren't vile smelling... but nevertheless, Kia's fur slowly started to rise. She hated strangers...
