One-eye padded through the forest, his one good eye searching the area. Prey seemed to be rustling, but they would smell him easily. He crouched down and sighed, sending birds cawing for help.

Sablestripe's claws itched as she watched the silhouettes of the birds flying high against the overcast grey skies. "Having trouble, old one?" she called playfully to the elderly tomcat, her slim body weaving through the trees. Leafbare, as usual, had left her naturally slender body twig-thin. She noted that One-eye didn't seem to be faring any better.

One-eye turned his head to see the image of Sabelstripe. "Oh, yes. But why would you care? Youngins don't care about the elder ones." He rasped. I"m ready to be an elder... He thought innocently, but then his mind thought back hard, NO! Not until your paws are glued to the ground. He smiled within himself and looked at Sablestripe. "Care to help an old cat in his time of need?"

One-eye purred. "You can pick up that stick over there," He mewed with a bit of laughter. He looked at the stick. Something hit him deep inside, but it was just a stick!

"What? What are you . . .? Oh, fine." Sablestripe turned and retrieved the slender branch . One end had been resting in a muddy puddle; when Sablestripe swung around globs of wet earth splattered in One-eyes' general direction.[/color]

One-eye blinked his one good eye. "All right, bring it here." He rasped, his nose burning from the mud on it. He shook his head sending little drops of mud every which way. He looked at the stick in Sablestripe's mouth and grinned. "Perrrrfect."

"Just give it to me!" One-eye hissed. What was this she-cat playing at? Why wouldn't she give him the dang stick? He looked at her with his one good eye. "Well. Just to let you know, I am not going to do anything to you.

One-eye picked it up and eyed the stick. "This is perfect." He looked up to where a bluejay was sitting, about two foxlengths up. One-eye threw the stick and knocked the bluejay out of the tree, but not out of life. "Oh, darn it! I always do that. Sablestripe, will ya help meh?" He mewed. Maybe the younger one can get it...

Though surprised at the old cat's action, Sablestripe was not deterred. She moved swiftly, pouncing forward with outstretched claws. Her paws came down squarely on the stunned bird's chest, where she took it's life with a quick bite to the neck. After feeling the frantic heart stop beneath her feet, she dumped the creature at One-eye's paws. "Interesting trick," she purred. "Never would've thought of that."

"Yah, well when you're as old as dirt itself, you learn things to keep ya on yur claws." One-eye purred, his whole pelt rumbling. "Well, might as well return to camp. Mind comin' back with meh, Sablestripe?"

Sablestripe laughed. "Sure." Something caught her eye, and she crouched suddenly, her dark pelt making her almost invisible on the shadowy forest floor. "Just give me one moment," she hissed devilishly. The slender she-cat shot forward, vaulted nimbly up a tree trunk, and hooked a pale claw into the bushy tail of a squirrel, caught unawares. She tossed it down to the old cat waiting below.[/color]

One-eye got hit with the squirrel and laughed in his croaky laugh. "Oh-ho...ha. Squirrel jokes." He started to lun (yes, lun) towards camp.
