The gray-and-white apprentice bounded easily through the territory. She had been training a lot as a warrior, despite the fact that ever since she was a kit she had always wished she was a medicine cat. Leaping with little effort required, she scaled the rocks nimbly. Most MountainClan cats were lean and quick, from all the jumping they did catching prey in their territory. I'll be made a warrior soon, Moonpaw thought excitedly.
Spotting a mouse scratching at a crevice in a rock, she crept towards it, twitching her whiskers. But when it turned to face her, she jerked back. Its eyes were a bright, iridescent blue, reflecting the stars. Startled, she was repelled from following it when it darted into a tiny cavelike structure, but it seemed to beckon her towards the entrance with those odd iridescent eyes. Looking up, despite the cloudcover over the sun, it was obvious that it was daytime and there should be no stars reflected in the eyes of Moonpaw's prey, or her guide, so she followed.
Padding into the small cave that only the lean apprentice should be able to fit in, she realized that this was where the rockslide had happened so long ago. A little blood was still on the rocks, and the gray-and-white apprentice shuddered, about to turn back around and leave. The mouse let out a squeak, and Moonpaw felt unable to resist following it, so she did. Back and back into the rocks, finally she came to a big flat rock, which she decided must be the mountain face. The mouse curled up and fell asleep, seeming to gesture to a flat, smooth rock, so Moonpaw curled up on the rock and closed her yellow-and-aqua eyes.
Suddenly jerked awake, Moonpaw realized that she was in the cave, but it glowed with a soothing blue light. There was no mouse, but there was a bluish-gray she-cat standing before the apprentice. "Greetings," Riverfur purred, but obviously Moonpaw didn't know her. "Um, hello," the apprentice mewed awkwardly. "I have come to give you a message, Moonpaw. There is great danger coming for all the Clans, and you must travel to Bluefalls at midnight on the new moon to find the others.
"You all will make a great journey," Riverfur continued, and Moonpaw dipped her head in acknowledgement. "You will fulfill the will of StarClan. I must go now, but remember what I have told you." Moonpaw nodded, and watched the blue-gray feline disappear into the darkness. Closing her eyes, she lay back down on the smooth rock.
Reopening her eyes, she glanced around. She was back in the cave. Her head reeling with the message she had just been given, Moonpaw stood quickly and darted out of the cave, missing the knowing look that the mouse gave her before it turned and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
