The sun was midway in the sky, light being filtered over the landscape like waer. Jadestar sat in her den, thinking about the Clan and what was best for it. Mostly, things had been very quiet... too quiet. OceanClan want Big Claw Island; that's a common fact. But the question is, when will they take it? When they think we're weakest? Jadestar didn't want to feel anxious all the time over it; she decided in her mind that patrols would be sent in that direction more frequently. Blackpaw will need to be made a warrior soon; I need someone to assess him. The shortage of warriors also worried her; there were only five regular warriors in the Clan. If OceanClan did decide to attack Big Claw Island, would we be strong enough to defend it? She thought fretfully. She unsheathed her claws, sinking them into the moss floor of her den.
Stepping out of the den into the sunlight, she blinked a few times with calm sage-green eyes. Sitting down by the fresh-kill pile, she awaited a warrior to show to assess Blackpaw.

Blackpatch had been dozing a ring of sunlight, one of many that dotted the camp. She yawned and stood as Jadestar came out of her den. The dark tabby she-cat stretched and padded over to the IslandClan leader, a few grains of sand falling from her sleek fur. "Do you need me to take a patrol out, Jadestar? I could round up Ringtail and a couple of others."

Jadestar nodded. "That would be great," She agreed. In a lower tone, she added, "Later on, I'm going to need someone to take Blackpaw out and assess him. I think he might be ready to become a warrior. Would you do that?"

Fogpaw opened his eyes to see the morning sun leaking into his den. He slowly stretched his now growing muscles and made his way out of his den to observe the rest of the clan waking up. He wondered if Jadestar would take him out today or someone else would in her place. [/size] |

Ringtail appeared at Blackpatch's side. Blackpatch nodded and smiled slightly. "Sure, I'll do that when I get back from the patrol." Ringtail watched Fogpaw making his way into the camp. "Fogpaw," he called, "Wanna join our patrol?"

Blackpaw lingered in the apprentice den, laying flat on his back his paws batting a fly softly. 'When will I be assesed?' He thought with a sigh. 'Shadeheart hasn't been able to teach that much, so what if I don't do well?' He rolled over onto his stomach and let out a yawn, his eyes held a slightly dreary look as he walked slowly out of the den, his black pelt making him look even worse. He could see Blackpatch and the others, but he didn't turn his head to face Jadestar, which made him feel even worse. 'Why do I feel so useless?' He thought silently as he gaze vacantly towards the ground with his soft yellow eyes.

Blackpatch remembered Jadestar's request as she saw Blackpaw. "Blackpaw! Get a move on! Patrol time!" She whirled and raced out across the bridge. Ringtail beckoned to the apprentices and bounded after her.

Blackpaw jerked his head up quickly as he heard Blackpatch. "Coming!" He said hastily as he bounded after Blackpatch and Ringtail. 'It'll be fine.' He told himself encouragingly as a grin flew silently onto his face.

Skyheart sat with content in the clearing. She just finished giving herself a thorough washing, and she was very tired. She went into the warriors den and she gently fell asleep, if for only 3 seconds.

Skyheart got up and decided to do something interesting when she woke up. She went over Blackpatch and Blackpaw. "Can I come too?" She asked. She wanted to see the territory in all it's fullness.
